Flood
by Khairani Barokka, age 15, from Australia
On the morning of the day I crept to my window
In early morning sunlight, bathed in blue
Curtains framing my head
I shifted my eyes across its length
Like a wild horse it knotted the grass in its arms
The river was full
The current was strong
And I was shrunken, bewildered, a speck
Drowning in vision
Like so many nothings
