Technicolor

by Madeline Jacobs, age 13, from USA

I dream in technicolor
Of things I wish to be
I know that not even in my wildest imagination
I could possibly live these amazing adventures
And yet
I paint myself portraits of life and love
Past the reaches of reality
And I ask why?
Why do people torture themselves
By wanting what they cannot have
And even when they receive their dues
It is never enough
No
People now are so disillusioned as to what life is
That they become mangy superficial puppets
Tied recklessly onto the string of their peers
Yes, I dream in technicolor
But because of that image
I have created a black and white world for myself
