Me and My Sweet Ignorance
by Katie Mason, age 16, from US
Me and my sweet ignorance
are trapped
between a possible love
and a possible heartbreak.
Sometimes the imprisoning bars
are heavy,
like his hand around my soul
and my infernal yearning.
But sometimes the bars
are lucid.
I can pass right through them,
but I withdraw my hand in disbelief.
Or maybe it's self-denial,
a feeble attempt
to achieve humility,
so that I will never fall too hard.
What I wouldn't give to be honest
and say,
"Behold my glory,
for I know it all!"
Me and my sweet ignorance
are anticipating
the day when I'll replace
what I don't know with him.
For he is everything.
