The Midnight Dancers

by Aussie Rosenfeld, age 12, from US

Deep within the ebony night,
with the wind whistling a tune and the moon in flight.

Deep in the forest with the trees in a row,
and the stars writing messages to the hills below.

Then a flash of white,
in the dark of the night.

Twisting and twiring like the wind and clouds,
two tiny mice from their sleep arouse.

Dancing and spinning beneath the dead sky,
bringing life to the night as they prance and they fly.

Slipping and sliding, becomeing part of the earth,
there happiness inside makes an end a rebirth.

then just as the sun rises over the green,
they slip away as though never seen.

Alough they are gone away, into the trees,
their spirit returns with every new breeze.
