Immortality

by Hae-In Kim, age 16, from US

Across the sky,
in the dusky gloam,
the stars cautiously appear
out of hiatus.
Their existence
connected in a magic web
of painted light
continuing into vast eternity.
The black velvet Night
savors their iridescent gleam.
As they grow in number,
they sparkle with contempt.
And the moon lurks among them,
Casting its luminous glow
over the dim expanse
of space.
As the veil of darkness
is lifted
their enchantment fades into sullen echoes,
melting discreetly
into Day.
